阿羅漢

(阿羅漢, 阿罗汉)

(sa) arhan, (sa) arhat, (zh) lohan; worthy, venerable; an enlightened, saintly man; the highest type or ideal saint in Hīnayāna in contrast with the (sa) bodhisattva as the saint in Mahāyāna; intp. as [lang id =1028]應供worthy of worship, or respect; intp. as [lang id =1028]殺賊 (sa) arihat, (sa) arihan, slayer of the enemy, i.e. of mortality; for the (sa) arhat enters nirvana [lang id =1028]不生 not to be reborn, having destroyed the karma of reincarnation; he is also in the stage of [lang id =1028]不學 no longer learning, having attained. Also [lang id =1028]羅漢; [lang id =1028]阿盧漢; [lang id =1028]阿羅訶 or [lang id =1028]阿羅呵; [lang id =1028]阿梨呵 (or [lang id =1028]阿黎呵); [lang id =1028]羅呵, etc.; cf. [lang id =1028]阿夷; [lang id =1028]阿畧.

梵語阿羅漢， 華言無學。 謂阿羅漢諸漏已盡， 梵行具足， 出現世間， 開示四諦， 令諸眾生脫離生死， 皆得無量義利安樂， 是為眾生之師範也。 （四諦者， 苦諦、 集諦、 滅諦、 道諦也。 ）

聲聞乘中的最高果位名， 含有殺賊、 無生、 應供等義。 殺賊是殺盡煩惱之賊， 無生是解脫生死不受後有， 應供是應受天上人間的供養。
